After a tough year—navigating a painful split and enduring the long, uncertain Film Industry strike of 2023—I finally found my footing again. Work picked back up (thankfully), and while Costume Styling a TV series, I found myself drawn to something unexpected: the recording studio.
On a whim in December 2023 I stepped into a session with producer ML House. By the end of that night, we had written and recorded LOST IN SPACE—my debut track as MZMRY, the Soul House Artist. It was lift-off baby! A smoky, sultry sound emerged from me, one I didn’t know I had. But ML House did. His encouragement helped unlock something deep inside me—and it felt like flying. Driving home that night, listening to our new creation, I knew: something ELECTRIC had just begun.
In just three months, we had four songs in the vault. I was working 12-hour days on STICK (Apple TV’s new golf comedy starring Owen Wilson), and then heading straight to the studio before driving home to my two teenagers. It was a blur. But I kept showing up—compelled, obsessed, lit up. That’s why I say music chose me. It wasn’t planned. It was instinct.
By Spring, we had six Soul House tracks finished—steamy, lush, and full of groove. We mastered them and began the next journey: releasing the Neon City EP. Since December 2024, I’ve dropped LOST IN SPACE, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN, STAY, and MIND ON FIRE. And on August 14th, one of my personal favourites arrives: LAST OF US.
This one’s a dreamy ride. A hotrod daydream of a love story set at golden hour:
“Let’s jump in a hotrod / Drive down to the boardwalk / And watch the golden sunset baby / I want to walk the earth with you / Hang in the interlude / And sparkle in the final act with you.”
LAST OF US was made to live in a film. It’s got that sticky, cinematic vibe. I hope a few Music Supervisors feel the same.
